what fish get along with common goldfish?

Posted on Sep 11, 2008 under common fish | 7 Comments

this morning, my one of my 2 common goldfish just died =[
the other fish is in a big tank and i want to buy more fish for company. what other fish get along with common goldfish?

Thank you =]

Other goldfish, more common or fancy. Depends on size of the tank. I wouldn't add any tropical fish because they would need a heater.

Goldfish= coldwater
Tropical= 76 degrees constant

You can add weather loaches, or golden dojo loaches. But it still depends on your tank size.

Can we put common map turtles with fish in the same tank?

Posted on Sep 10, 2008 under common fish | 4 Comments

I bought some turtles for the kids in China Town, NY and end up putting them in the same tank with the Fish. I got a nice turtle dock, but I notice that the turtles snaps at the Underwater frogs. Is it safe to put the turtles in the same tank or should they be separated?

Well usually turtles will eat anything put with them, snails, crabs, fish whatever regardless of size. If you treasure the fish, get another tank for the turtles.

However, those turtles from China Town come from cruel conditions and are sometimes illegally sold. Turtles require ten gallons per inch of shell and need a water heater, filter, dock, two light fixtures, a 5.0 UVB bulb, and a heat bulb. But what concerns me the most is that they are in a fish tank which means you have gravel in there. Turtles will eat gravel and die and also it'll make your tank disgusting. Turtles need a filter 3x the size of the tank so really you probably don't have the correct needs down and need to evaluate their situation.

This is an ok setup..see the submersible heater (visitherm stealth), huge filter, and dock with bare bottom http://www.redearslider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10322&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

Turtles aren't a touching pet nor something that is easy to take care of. They need hours of maintenance and hundreds of dollars.

Fried Korean Fish Cake (Odeng Bbokkeum)

Posted on Sep 09, 2008 under common fish | 25 Comments

Odeng Bbokkeum (오뎅볶음) is a Korean side dish. Odeng means fish cake and Bokkeum means fried. In the past, most Korean students brought their own lunch box to school everyday since schools didn’t have a cafeteria like nowadays. Odeng bokkeum was one common side dish for our lunch box, because of that, it brings back memories of our school days. It is also a common side dish for homemade meals. If you like spicy food you can add more red pepper powder. You can find the fish cake sheets in an oriental or Korean store. I hope you enjoy this food. *^^*

What is the average life span of a common household gold fish?

Posted on Sep 09, 2008 under common fish | 7 Comments

How long can my 1- 2 inch goldfish live?

Goldfish can have lifespans up to 20+ years if they are fed a varied diet and housed in exceptional water conditions. They need to be in tanks that are not overcrowded. They need sufficient swimming room and do best if they are kept with their own types.

The oldest living Goldfish to date was a goldfish named Tish owned by Hilda and Gordon Hand of Thirsk, N. Yorkshire, England. Tish lived for 43 years after being won at a fairground in 1956.

What common and preferably inexpensive fish has the best chance of survival for my 3 yr old daughter?

Posted on Sep 08, 2008 under common fish | 21 Comments

I'm thinking about buying her a fish for Easter, and it will need to live in a smaller bowl alone. I will help her care for the fish and the bowl but am not willing to spend much money on special foods, purified environment gadgets, etc.. I need a tough low maintenance fish. Thanks!

Betta is great low maintenance fish!
you could go to Petco or any other pet store.
petco's price of betta is round 10bucks under depending on the kind of betta and the bowl ranges from 10-20bucks.
the food is round 2bucks and the water conditioner is round 3bucks.
so my estimation is that you need like around 20-40bucks.
go to this link to find out more
http://www.petco.com/Shop/SearchResults.aspx?Nav=1&N=0&Ntt=betta+fishes

hope this helps =)
