IN the springtime I set five gallon buckets of watter in my yard for mosquito breeder tanks then sein the larva out and feed them to my fish.Does anyone else do this? It's good nutricious and cheap live food for fish that I highly recomend.
In my tank larva never survive long enough to hatch! ! !
yea last year we used to have a big pond in in our backyard that had no fish in it so once a week usually Wednesday I fished into it and wrangled up some larva, there were others besides mosquito larva, I think bloodworms, daphina, and dragonfly larva Like you I never had a problem with them living for too long the would get eaten either way in fact my fish when my fish realized they got larva on Wednesday suddenly that became there favorite day of the week.

The people at the petstore told me that they feed their goldfish tropical fish flake food. I thought they were supposed to eat flake food that is made specifically for goldfish. Is it okay to feed them the tropical fish food or the goldfish food. Does it really matter?
Yes it is, BUT you must look for a food with out corn in it. Usually tropical fish food is better quality than many goldfish foods available. A good food is hard to find. You want plenty of seafood like whole fish meal, and krill, and some spirolina in it too. You want protien about 30% and fat around 10%. Look for that and don't worry about if its tropical or goldfish food. Corn indicated the food is full of cheap filler and is low quality. Also named as corn guten meal, or gluten meal. Avoid corn it causes digestive problems and floating.

i have a pregnant black molly and i want to keep the babies but my mom wont let me bc the microscopic fish food for the babies cost too much. is there any other way to feed the babies?
There are several things that you can feed livebearer fry that you probably have at home right now. First is your regular fish food. As mentioned, you can just crush that up into powder and then soak it in some tank water so the fry can manage it. Make sure you get it crushed very fine though. What I do is use a mortar and pestle, but before I had one I would crush it in a bowl with a rounded bottom and the back of a spoon, then push it through a piece of an old, clean pair of nylons. Any pieces that fit through the nylons are small enough for fry.
Also, a great, protein-rich food for fry is the mashed yolk of an egg. Just boil an egg, take a tiny piece of egg yolk, mash it up with the back of a spoon and mix it with a little bit of tank water. Then drip the mixture into the tank for the fry. Only feed a tiny amount of this at a time or it will cloud your water. You can save the boiled egg yolk and feed this for up to a week. (Or just eat the rest of the egg.)
You can also feed fry the inside of a steamed or boiled green pea. Peel the pea or just squeeze it and mash the inside into mush and put it into the water. Both adults and tiny fry enjoy this vegetable treat and it helps prevent constipation in fish. One pea or 1/2 a pea will feed 2 dozen fish or 50 fry.
You can also feed fry regular baby food. Pea, green bean or mixed vegetable are good choices. One jar of human baby food is not all that expensive and will last a tank full of fish a long, long time! The adults will eat it too.

My dog passed away this morning after suffering from stomach problems for about a week (vomitting, weakness, loss of appetite, etc.). I didn't know what happened to cause such an illness besides the fact that he was 13 years old and nearing his life expectancy. On my drive home I realized that about two weekends ago he consumed about a handful of fish food pellets while exploring my friend's backyard. Would eating fish food cause stomach failure?
Oh boy. I hate to tell you this, but, you know all those problems with the dog and cat food recall? Related to melamine being used illegally as a substitute for protein? Well, it just so happens that they found the stuff in fish food pellets which were used to feed fish on fish farms which are grown for human consumption.
Make sure you haven't been feeding your pet one of the dog foods that has been recalled.
For piece of mind give your vet a call and let him/her know about your worry. And, check the FDA internet site. That site has good information.
However, it's highly unlikely that normal fish food would cause any illness. Fish food is usually made of fish meal mixed with vitamins and minerals. A person could eat it and not get sick.
I'm very sorry about the loss of your friend. 13 years is a good old age. You did all you could and you were a good friend to your dog. Be at peace and be glad your dog is in peace.
