What are the names of some tropical fish the are 3 inches or under full grown?

Posted on Sep 11, 2008 under fish tropical | 7 Comments

I was look at getting Tropical fish but I don’t what any fish that are over 3 inches. Can anyone give me a list of fish that are 3 inches or under?

Please and Thank you!
I was think about some Guppies, Platies, Tetras and Otocinclus do you think they would go well together?
I was going to get three of everything and 6 teters

what size is your tank? guppies/platys can cohabit, tetras can depending on species, neon tetras for example would be fine, but serpae tetras would shred your guppies to pieces. otocinclus are entirely peaceful and need to be kept in groups, they must, however, have a mature tank at least 3-6 months old with plenty of soft algae growth.

One of my tropical fish has a lump growing just infront of one eye - what should I do?

Posted on Sep 10, 2008 under fish tropical | 7 Comments

We have been given some tropical fish - we have had them for about two weeks the transfer between homes went well all the fish seem happy, however one of them has a bulbourus lump in front of one eye which was white and has now turned slightly pink. The fish seems quite healthy otherwise. Any suggestions as to what this might be or how we can treat it?

Does it look like a sore growing out of his head? If so it could be a tumour, in which case it will get bigger, you can't treat it, but the fish most likely won't die from it, at least not in the short term.

Tropical community aquarium

After the disaster of my last tank (bottom fell out!), this is my new one. Managed to save a few fish, but had to really start afresh with them. It’s all live plants in tank with natural sand, rocks and bogwood. Bogwood took me a while to get right, but it’s all good now. Ph is at 7.0 and temp is around 28c. Any advice and help would be good as i’m still learning!

Tank now contains 2 guppies,2 rainbow fish, 2 saffron mollies, 1 silver molly, 1 dalmation molly, 1 plattie, 2 clown loach, 2 cherry barbs, 1 white spotted catfish, 1 chinese algae eater, 2 gourami, 2 cardinal tetra, 1 neon tetra, 1 rummynose tetra, 3 frogs, 1 apple snail, 1 swordtail, 1 glowlight tetra.

If anyone can tell me what the stripey fish is called, it would be gladly appreciated. It looks like a loach and was told that it feeds on snail eggs.

(ps. my baby in the background is addicted to the fish!)

Please comment and check out my previous tank.

Can Marine fish and Tropical fish be kept in the same tank?

Posted on Sep 09, 2008 under fish tropical | 28 Comments

I currently have a tropical tank, but I am looking to invest in a marine tank as marine fish look stunning, especially with the coral and sand in the tank, it gives you that ocean feel. I was just wondering if marine fish could reside alongside my tropical fish in the same tank? If not then I will have to look to sell my tank, along with my fish that currently reside inside it. Could someone please tell me if they can or cannot reside together. Thank you

no they cant marine are salt water and tropical are fresh water two different kinds of water you need to seperate tanks

What tropical fish can be kept in groups of four or less?

Posted on Sep 08, 2008 under fish tropical | 8 Comments

most, and almost all tetras and other fish are better off in groups of 6 or more.

however what i would like to know are tropical fish (such as tetras) than can be kept in groups of 4 or less, or even pairs

but at the same time do not get too large (nothing over 2 inches)

thanks for the help :D

alright then. my tank is ten gallons with the dimensions 51cm x 25cm x 30cm.

platies(1 male,2-3 females), mollies(1 male,2-3 females), guppies(1 male,2-3 females), cories(2-4), chocolate or honey gouramis(2-4), kroaking gouramies(2-4), Ottos(1-4), Pygmy Gouramies (2-4)… there are tons of things that can be kept in a ten gallon aquarium in groups of four or less, just don’t overcrowd and get a variety of fish, use all areas of the tank Top - Bottom!

Good Luck!
