Fried Korean Fish Cake (Odeng Bbokkeum)
Posted on Sep 09, 2008 under common fish |
Odeng Bbokkeum (오뎅볶음) is a Korean side dish. Odeng means fish cake and Bokkeum means fried. In the past, most Korean students brought their own lunch box to school everyday since schools didn’t have a cafeteria like nowadays. Odeng bokkeum was one common side dish for our lunch box, because of that, it brings back memories of our school days. It is also a common side dish for homemade meals. If you like spicy food you can add more red pepper powder. You can find the fish cake sheets in an oriental or Korean store. I hope you enjoy this food. *^^*

Hi, fatkatt2 again ^^
I think your question is very good. Maybe some people will wonder that too if they are interested in Korean food. As you see, Korean food is a little complex to make… when we eat meal.. mainly we have rice and different kinds of soup eash day..that’s basic…and for banchan.. yep.. we eat many banchan (side-dishes )together with rice and soup.. you don’t want to cook different kinds of banchan everyday.. (too much work..) so.. here is answer…

I wanted to ask you …
Also thank you for thinking of me, to try to speak Korean in some videos! I will definitely look forward to it, but I hope it will not be troublesome to you! ^^
I wanted to ask you a question if I could too. ^^; I was wondering what is a normal arrangement of banchan for a meal. Like how many is usual and are there any general guidelines, like to have a cold dish and a warm dish or a vegetable only dish and then protein/meat dish.

I couldn’t believe how good this is, I have always really disliked american fishcakes, but I tried some of these before the sauce and I even liked it then. I like Korean music and shows too. So, I thought if I like Korean people and want to go to Korea and enjoy Korean culture then of course I want to learn Korean; it is only respectful to do so! Also, I want to help Korean people who want to learn English, so I need to know Korean to be able to properly help them. Actually I will go on my birthday this Wednesday for my first day volunteering at a university program that teaches English!
*continued* ~They also helped me find a Korean grocery.

Hmm…It is …
My little sister had a nurse named Jong who helped us a lot. My whole family really liked her, she made tea and brought us cinnamon buns! We also went to her house and met her daughter, and she and her husband saw us off when we moved.^^ Now I always talk to the Korean couple who own the store by my house. Sometimes they give me something for free!
Talking to them made me want to try Korean food and read about Korea.
Hmm…It is probably from how nice the Korean people I have known were.
