what fish get along with common goldfish?

Posted on Sep 11, 2008 under common fish |

this morning, my one of my 2 common goldfish just died =[
the other fish is in a big tank and i want to buy more fish for company. what other fish get along with common goldfish?

Thank you =]

Other goldfish, more common or fancy. Depends on size of the tank. I wouldn't add any tropical fish because they would need a heater.

Goldfish= coldwater
Tropical= 76 degrees constant

You can add weather loaches, or golden dojo loaches. But it still depends on your tank size.

    Other goldfish, white cloud mountain minnows also go well with goldfish but may get eaten once the goldfish reach full size.

    There are so many varieties of goldfish now that i would stick with the goldfish but maybe get a fancy type like the oranda or lionhead ;-)

    goldfish are not usually non-agressive so it would be best to put them with other non agressive fish….. pleco, guppies, some catfish, some of the more agressive fish will be ok as long as they are smaller than your goldfish . but watch out for any fish that nip at fins because they will most likely rip the fins off your goldfish and it will die……….most of the petshops will be able to tell you which fish are agressive… but there are too many non agressive fish to list …… you have a big selection….

    not a lot as goldfish grow very big and like room to move so they well Equipped to barge any other fish to the other side

    Its usually best to keep goldfish only with other goldfish, in fact some people prefer to keep more delicate varieties like bubble eyes separate from tougher varieties like comets.

    I have heard that loaches are ok, but have not tried it personally.

    Unfortunately Pleco's are a very risky choice, because they can begin sucking the protective coat from the goldfish's scales off, or even the scales and fins. Lots of people say their fish are friendly with one another, but lots of others say that its only a matter of time before the goldfish gets hurt, as sometimes they only get aggressive when they are fully grown. The injuries the Plecos can inflict on goldfish can be extremely gruesome, or be just an odd discoloration and loss of shine on a patch of scales. Either way, the goldfish can get a nasty infection and die.

    It's probably best to just get him another common for a friend. Pick a nice healthy looking one, and just watch for illness.
    I have personally found this site to be extremely helpful for my own fish: http://thegab.org/

    Hi, sorry to hear of your loss. Before you get another fish I would recommend trying to find out why he died first. What size is your tank?-Goldfish need at least 10 gallons each so any smaller & there may be poor water conditions-check your parameters. You need at least a 20 gallon with a powerful filter for 2 Goldfish.

    Apart from another Common Goldfish the only other good buddies are Comets & Shubunkins-they have to be of a similar size too. Never mix fancy & non-fancy types as the fancies will loose out on the food.
