What should be the average temperature in my fish tank?
Posted on Sep 07, 2008 under fish temperature |My 3 neon tetras, 2 guppies, 2 algae eaters and shark all share a 15 gallon tank. They have all lived in the tank for about a month and i recently bought a heater. Does anyone know what the average temperature should be? Any additional information would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks :]]
78F would be the ideal temp for your tropical fish. If your algae eaters are common plecos, you've got a problem! Most other types of algae eaters will outgrow a 15 gallon tank, too. Common plecos are about the largest in that they can reach 18" in length or longer. Chinese algae eaters can get to be 10-11 inches. They will quickly outgrow your 15 gallon tank. Also, depending upon the type of shark you have, you may have an even bigger problem. Many sharks will grow to lengths exceeding a foot and most are very territorial. Neons are schooling fish and you should have at least 6.

76-82- ish. But, your tank is overstocked. A 15 gallon tank is way too small for any shark and algae eater, by themselves, much less all three together.

Your tank with tropical fish should be around 72 to 78 degrees ferenheit. (22 °C to 26 °C)

I'd keep that tank about 78 degrees F. Just a heads up, if those are Chinese algae eaters prepare yourself for some trouble. They get very big and very mean once they are older. You'll need to eventually get rid of them or upgrade to a much larger tank.

75-78F should be about right for your fish tank.

76 to 80 is fine anything under 72 is hard on the guppies,And no your tank is not overstocked.I would add More guppies two is not many if you have a male you will need 3 females to each male.Because they chase the poor female to stress. And neons are a schooling fish but if you go with the guppies I would not get more neons. They don't really mix if you have alot.Have fun with your hobby!
